Commissioner of Oaths

The Commissioners for Taking Affidavits Act, 1990 authorizes Municipal Clerks and other officers to administer oaths and take affidavits. A Commissioner for Taking Affidavits (also known as a Commissioner of Oaths) is not the same as a Notary Public. The Township reserves the right to refuse commissioning services of any document.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • $25 for a maximum of 5 documents per visit
  • $10 for each additional 5-document increment

The cost is reviewed annually.

Commissioner of Oath services are provided at the Township office from Monday to Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Please contact the Township to schedule a Commissioner of Oath appointment at 519-632-8800.

The individual who will be taking the oath and signing the document must present one original piece of government issued photo identification such as:

  • valid driver's licence
  • valid passport

Please do not sign the document in advance. The Commissioner of Oath must witness your signature.

The Township does not provide Notary Public services. Please contact a lawyer or the local courts related to a notary service.
