Information for Voters

To qualify as an eligible elector to vote in the 2022 Municipal Election, you must:

• be a Canadian citizen
• be at least 18 years old
• reside in the Township of North Dumfries, be the owner or tenant of land in the Township of North Dumfries, or the spouse of such a person
• not be prohibited from voting under any law

Regardless of how many properties you own or rent within the Township, you may only vote once.

The following list indicates those who are prohibited from voting under Section 17 (3) of the Municipal Elections Act

• A person serving a sentence in a penal or correctional institution
• A corporation
• An executor or trustee
• Any person convicted of an offence under subsection 90 (3) of the Municipal Elections Act

Eligible voters have two options to vote in the 2022 Municipal Election. 

Option 1: Internet Voting

Vote from anywhere, anytime between the following dates:

• Opens: Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at 10 a.m.
• Closes: Monday, October 24, 2022 at 8 p.m.

Option 2: In Person Voting 

Vote at your ward-specific location on one of the following days:

• Wednesday, October 19, 2022 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
• Saturday, October 22, 2022 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
• Monday, October 24, 2022 from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.

There will be two elections in Ontario in 2022 and each keeps a separate voters' list:

1. The Provincial Election in June 2022 uses information provided by Elections Ontario for the voters' list.
2. The Municipal Election on October 24, 2022 uses information provided by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) for the voters' list.

If you voted in a Provincial or Federal Election, it does not guarantee that you are on the Voters' List for a Municipal Election.  

If you need to be added to the voters' list, or update your information then please visit the Township Office, located at 2958 Greenfield Road, Ayr during regular business hours; Monday to Friday from 8:30am - 4:30pm. Photo Id and proof of qualifying address are required. 

Alternatively, you may visit one of the in-person voting locations during the specified times to amend your information, or to be added to the voters' list (photo Id and proof of qualifying address are required): 

Please note, that should you wish to vote in person after amending your information, or being added to the voters' list, you must visit your ward specific voting location to vote. You cannot vote in person unless at your ward specific voting location. You may also vote online using any device that has access to the internet. To add your name to the Voters' List, show one of the following pieces of ID in original, certified, or notarial copy format that shows the person's name and qualifying address.

1. Ontario Driver's Licence
2. Ontario Health Card (with photo)
3. Ontario Photo Card
4. Ontario motor vehicle permit (vehicle portion)
5. Voided personalized cheque
6. Mortgage statement, leaser or rental agreement relating to property in Ontario
7. Insurance policy or insurance statement
8. Loan agreement or other financial agreement with a financial institution
9. Document issued or certified by a court in Ontario
10. Any other document from the government of Canada, Ontario or a municipality in Ontario or from an agency of such a government
11. Any document from a Band Council in Ontario established under the Indian Act (Canada)
12. Income Tax Assessment Notice
13. Child Tax Benefit Statement
14. Statement of Employment Insurance Benefits Paid T4E
15. Statement of Old Age Security T4A (OAS)
16. Statement of Canada Pension Plan Benefits T4A (P)
17. Canada Pension Plan Statement of Contributions
18. Statement of Direct Deposit for Ontario Work.

22. Credit card statement, bank account statement, or RRSP, RRIF, RHOSP or T5 statement
23. CNIB Card or a card from another registered charitable organization that provides services to persons with disabilities
24. Hospital card or record
25. Document showing campus residence, issued by the office or officials responsible for student residence at a pot-secondary institution
26. Document showing residence at a long-term care home under the Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007, issued by the Administrator for the home
27. Utility bill for hydro, water, gas, telephone or cable TV or a bill from a public utilities commission
28. Cheque stub, T4 statement or pay receipt issued by an employer
29. Transcript or report card from a post-secondary school

Why was I asked to endorse a candidate to run for office?

All candidates are required to collect 25 signatures on the Endorsement of Nomination (Form 2) prior to submitting their candidacy for office in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act. Candidates running for Ward Councillor, Mayor, and Regional Chair must collect these signatures. Any eligible voter in the Township of North Dumfries may endorse a candidate.
