Energy Management

The Township of North Dumfries is dedicated to fostering a culture of energy conservation and environmental sustainability.  Energy is critical to the operation of the Township’s buildings, services and for the maintenance of parks. Facilities staff strive to identify energy savings opportunities, investigate and implement cost effective energy retrofit projects throughout municipal facilities, and capitalize on rebate and grant funding programs.

Beginning in 2011, Ontario Regulation 397/11 (now replaced with O. Reg 507/18), requires all agencies in the Broader Public Sector to prepare a five-year Energy Conservation and Demand Management (ECDM) Plan.

The Township’s objectives of the ECDM Plan are to achieve the following:

  1. Energy consumption will be closely monitored and efficiently utilized by managers in their respective departments on an ongoing basis
  2. A corporate culture of conservation will be promoted amongst all Township staff
  3. The impact to energy consumption and to greenhouse gas emissions will be considered during budgetary, procurement, planning, and corporate policy decisions
  4. The Township meets and exceeds the requirements of Ontario Regulation 507/18

The Township is currently developing the Township of North Dumfries’ 2019 – 2024 ECDM plan which is required to be updated every five (5) years and published by July 1, 2019.

The Township is required to report energy data on each municipal facility, such as the amount of greenhouse gas emissions as well as the type of energy usage. The annual energy consumption and GHG emission reports are as follows:
