Municipal Elections Compliance Audit Committee

The Township of North Dumfries, in partnership with the Region of Waterloo, Cities of Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo, and Guelph, and the Townships of Wellesley, Wilmot, and Woolwich, have worked together to establish a joint Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee (MECAC). This committee reviews a candidate's or third party's election campaign finances when an application for a compliance audit is filed. Pursuant to the Municipal Elections Act 1996, the committee:

• considers whether an application for a compliance audit should be accepted or rejected, 
• appoints an auditor if the application is accepted, and; 
• receives and considers the auditor's report to decide if legal proceeding should commence.
