The Community Services department is responsible for all the local roads in the Township of North Dumfries.

Emergency and Weather Related Road Closures

Township road closures, for emergency purposes or due to weather conditions, are communicated directly to a variety of service providers and to the public through Township social media.

Planned Road Closures

Below is a list of the 2024 Township Road Construction projects, which include road construction and other road-related activities taking place within the Township boundaries.

Traffic calming measures are put in place to tackle problems related to speeding, high traffic volumes, and neighborhood safety. Although the methods used may vary, all traffic calming measures work towards enhancing the safety and well-being of residents by reducing traffic speed and volume. 

What determines if a road is a Regional road?

A Regional road is defined as an arterial road that carries a significant amount of traffic, and has a connection to provincial highways or rural settlements, or to major commercial, industrial or institutional complexes.

The Township of North Dumfries provides snow removal services in the winter months to ensure safe travel on our streets during weather events. Visit our Snow Removal page for more details.

1. Fire Hydrants - If a fire hydrant near your property is buried by drifts or snow banks please dig it out.
2. Windrows - We understand your frustration when you clear your driveway and then a snowplow comes by and leaves a pile of snow - a windrow. Unfortunately it is impossible to clear snow from the roads without leaving one.
3. Parking - Parked cars are a snowplow operator's biggest obstacle. If your street has not been plowed please do not park on it. Parking is prohibited between 2:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. between December 1st and March 31st each year. During the winter months By-Law Enforcement will be actively enforcing this in order to eliminate any conflict with the snowplows. Failure to abide to this policy may result in a fine or your vehicle being towed.
4. Dumping Snow on Roads - No person shall deposit snow or ice on a roadway. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 181.R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 181
5. Patience - When plowing operations begin, the operators are following routes that have been designed to minimize duplication and maximize efficiency. The length of time to complete a route varies.

As of January 1st, 2024, Grandbridge Energy Inc. will no longer be maintaining burnt out or malfunctioning streetlights for North Dumfries Township.  To report an outage or malfunctioning streetlight, please complete the online form that will be submitted to the Public Works Department.
