The roads in the Township are the responsibility of both the Township and the Region of Waterloo. Primarily, the Township is responsible for local road maintenance and construction and the Region of Waterloo is responsible for the transportation issues on the major routes.

Township road closures, for emergency purposes or due to weather conditions, are communicated directly to a variety of service providers and to the public through Township social media.

Traffic calming measures are put in place to tackle problems related to speeding, high traffic volumes, and neighborhood safety. Although the methods used may vary, all traffic calming measures work towards enhancing the safety and well-being of residents by reducing traffic speed and volume.

Residents with traffic related concerns are instructed to submit a written traffic calming request to the Township. Township staff will then conduct a brief preliminary assessment to determine if the requested road and/or area meets the initial screening criteria. |
Traffic Calming Pilot Projects |
In response to speeding concerns received from the residents, the Township of North Dumfries will be initiating a traffic calming pilot project on various roads throughout the township.
The pilot project will witness the temporary installation of rubber speed humps on Greenfield Road, between Northumberland St. and Trussler Rd., and Morrison Road, between 1730 and 2090 Morrison Rd. The speed humps are tentatively scheduled for installation the week of June 10th and will be in place for the time period extending between June to November 2024. Information notices will be delivered to properties in the effected area's prior to the installation. Feedback on the program can be submitted to staff via the online form, print and email the form to Public Works, or alternatively, this form can be mailed or hand delivered to the Township Municipal Office located at 106 Earl Thompson Rad, 3rd Floor, P.O. What determines if a road is a Regional road?
A Regional road is defined as an arterial road that carries a significant amount of traffic, and has a connection to provincial highways or rural settlements, or to major commercial, industrial or institutional complexes.

As of January 1st, 2024, Grandbridge Energy Inc. will no longer be maintaining burnt out or malfunctioning streetlights for North Dumfries Township. To report an outage or malfunctioning streetlight, please complete the online form that will be submitted to the Public Works Department.
